Amazing Maize Maze at Rural Hill
An Annual Fun Event: September 7–November 4

Beginning on the Friday after Labor Day, and every Friday through Sunday until November 4, the “Amazing Maize Maze at Rural Hill” is open. Hours are 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday. Hours go from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on all days starting September 28. [Adults - $10; Children 5-12 yrs. - $7; Children under 4 yrs. – Free] There will be special “Flashlight Mazes” on Friday and Saturday nights starting September 28. [Tickets for “Flashlight Mazes”: Adults - $15; Children 5-12 yrs - $10, Children under 4 yrs. - Free] Flashlight Maze tickets are sold between 6 and 9 p.m.

The maze is always a challenge and will test your skills on your way to Victory Bridge. Join in the fun and confusion of all seven acres of corn and two miles of pathways. There are hidden map pieces to the solution, but many visitors still try nearly every trail before success!

For those that may be unfamiliar with the format, this is a corn (maize) field maze that is challenging for young and old alike. It is a great family event. Many students attend with classes during weekdays. Church and social groups will also find the challenge to be fun and perhaps competitive. There are food and other activities, including, hayrides, live music, bonfires, and games of corn-hole.

Rural Hill is a 265 acre historical site in Huntersville that was the original homestead of Major John Davidson and his family. This location holds the Lake Norman Highland Games each April and also hosts the Rural Hill Sheep Dog Trials in November.

For further information about Rural Hill and this year’s maze, visit www.ruralhill.net or call 704.875.3113 for advance group reservations.

On a more personal note: There is a group of New Neighborhood residents that have attended the maze every year for an annual “Guys vs. Gals” competition. Rumor has it that the guys have made great comebacks in the last two years!

Green Day Festival — Saturday, September 15

Davidson Village Green (8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) – Sponsored by the Davidson Lands Conservancy (DLC), this event showcases organizations that model sustainable practices and promote environmental awareness. Exhibitors are encouraged to inspire, educate, and engage participants of all ages on “green” topics – from appreciating wildlife and native plants to natural alternatives to pesticides. Green Day is expected to grow further, and DLC is seeking a variety of “green exhibitors,” with preference given to booths that engage children and families with hands-on activities. The event coincides with DLC’s Run for Green (half marathon, 10K run, and 5K run/walk) at 7:30 a.m. Register online for Run for Green at www.davidsonlands.org. For more information on how your business or organization can participate in this event, contact DLC at DLCGreenDay@gmail.com.
