The 2012-2013 school session is underway!

Van Every/Smith Galleries, Katherine and Tom Belk Visual Arts Center – These galleries play a fundamental role in the life of Davidson College. They provide a challenging forum for the presentation, interpretation, and discussion of primarily contemporary artworks in all media for students and members of the Davidson community, as well as for national and international visitors to the campus.

August 29 (Wednesday) – October 21 (Sunday) - “Faculty Exhibition” – The exhibit features works by three Studio Art Faculty – Hagit Barkai, Professor of Painting; Tyler Starr, Assistant Professor of Studio Art, Printmaking; and Darren Douglas Floyd, visiting Assistant Professor of Art.

The Every/Smith Galleries are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from noon to 4 p.m. Programs are free and open to the public. For questions, contact Rosemary Gardner at rogardner@davidson.edu or 704-894-2575.

September 29 (Saturday) – “Connecting Crossroads in North Carolina” – Duke Family Performance Hall (8:00 p.m.) – The culmination of a two-year residency project across North Carolina, this performance will include works inspired by the musical stories of the state. The works are collaborations between Daniel Bernard Roumain, Laurelyn Dossett, and the Davidson College Music Department’s student ensembles.

October 22 - 25 (Monday – Friday) – “The Mystical Arts of Tibet: Mandala Sand Painting”- Alvarez College Union (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day) – The Tibetan Lamas of Dreppung Loseling Monastery spend the week creating a mandala sand painting exhibit. This is a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity not to be missed!

September 8 (Saturday) – Tyler-Tallman Hall (8:00 p.m.) -2012-2013 Tyler-Tallman Concert Series, “Jon Nakamatsu, piano” – International soloist and winner of the 1997 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Gold Medal, this Charlotte favorite returns to Davidson to open the new season.

Tickets may be purchased online, by calling 704.894.2135, in person at the Union Box Office (Monday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.), or at the door. Subscribe to all six performances of the Concert Series and receive a discount of $70. A partial subscription package for $40 contains tickets to any three concerts of your choice.
