Davidson College Events

August 26 – October 5 – Art Exhibition – The Belk Visual Arts Center will feature two exhibitions. The William H. Van Every Gallery will host the “2005 Faculty Exhibition,” including new works by Davidson studio Professors Herb Jackson and Russ Warren, as well as a large sculptural installation by Professor Cort Savage. The Edward M. Smith Gallery will feature “New Paintings by Kirk Fanelly.” Fanelly is an emerging artist from Charlotte who produces narrative, quirky works full of visual puns and pop culture references. The public is invited to view the exhibitions from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 4 p.m. on weekends. There is no admission charge. Please call 704.894.2519 for information.

September 10 (Saturday) – Stadium Dedication and Football Game – Davidson College invites the public to dedication ceremonies for its expanded and renovated Richardson Football Stadium. Activities begin at 5:30 p.m., prior to the 7 p.m. kickoff of the game. Kids can enjoy face painting, balloon artistry, football toss, and other activities in nearby Dogwood Dell. Halftime ceremonies will recognize donors to the project. Following the game, Coach Tripp Merritt will meet Wildcat fans in the stadium’s new Ernie Doe Weight Room. Game tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. For information, call 704.894.2673.

September 23 (Friday) - Davidson College Artist Series – C. Shaw Smith and Nancy K. Smith Artist Series kicks off its season with a performance by jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon and her six-piece band. They will present “Blueprint of a Lady – A Tribute to Billie Holiday” in celebration of what would have been Holiday’s ninetieth birthday. Season tickets for four shows are $66 before September 23. Individual show tickets are $20 each. The Freelon concert begins at 8 p.m. in Duke Family Performance Hall. Other performances comprising the 2005-2006 season are in November, 2005, and January and April, 2006. September 29 (Thursday) – Concert Series – The season begins with a performance of woodwind music by The Intrada Wind Quintet. Formed at the Yale School of Music, this ensemble won the 2004 Coleman Chamber Music Competition in Pasadena, California. General admission tickets are $20 each. The concert begins at 8 p.m. in Tyler-Tallman Hall of the Sloan Music Center.
