Davidson Farmer's Market

Saturday (8 a.m. to noon), Downtown Davidson next to Town Hall between Main and Jackson Streets - The Davidson Farmer’s Market continues its weekly schedule through October. The producer-only market features more than 30 local producers selling a wide variety of locally grown vegetables and fruits, meats, eggs, honey, dairy and fresh flowers as well as baked goods, soaps and farmer-made crafts. Themed market days, cooking classes, musical entertainment and educational activities are planned throughout the season. Annual Halloween March

October 29 (Friday), Town Hall (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.) - Davidson characters of all ages are invited to dress in their favorite costume and participate in the annual “Trick or Treat” March. Representatives from local businesses located on Main Street in downtown Davidson will be in front of their stores handing out treats with a few tricks mixed in. Line-up for the march begins at Town Hall at 4:45 p.m. and the march starts at 5:15 p.m. Contact the Parks & Recreation office at 704.892.3349 if you have questions or are interested in volunteering during the event.

Davidson Senior Scholars Programs

Second and fourth Tuesdays (10:30 a.m. until noon), Davidson Parks & Rec office (Room A, 416 Armour Street) – The fall programs continue through December 28. The general meeting format consists of lecture followed by question and answer. The speakers, often Davidson College professors and local physicians, are experts in their fields. Programs are free! October 12 (Tuesday) – Back by popular request, Neil Gallagher, former Assistant Director FBI, will address the group on “Understanding Today’s Terrorism Threat.” He will draw from his experience as Chief of Counter-Terrorism in the 90s and explore how law enforcement agencies have adapted to the current realities.

50+ Coffee Club

Come and join friends and neighbors every Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until 12 noon at the Parks & Recreation Department (Armour Street) for coffee, snacks and a social opportunity. No registration is required.

“Amazing Maize Maze at Rural Hill”
An Annual Fun Event: Now – November 7

Beginning Labor Day Weekend (Saturday through Monday), and every Friday through Sunday until November 7, the “Amazing Maize Maze at Rural Hill” is open. Hours are 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. each open day in September and hours go from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Fridays in October and November. [Adults - $10; Children 5-12 yrs. - $7; Children under 4 yrs. – Free] There will be special “Flashlight Mazes” on every Friday night in October and on November 5. [Tickets for “Flashlight Mazes”: Adults - $15; Children 5-12 yrs - $10, Children under 4 yrs. - Free] Flashlight Maze tickets are sold between 6:30 and 8 p.m. No pets allowed.

The maze is always a challenge and will test your skills in problem solving while you find Kernels of Knowledge as you make your way to Victory Bridge. Join in the fun of all seven acres of corn, including 7,700 feet of trail, 466 turns, and 125 intersections. There are hidden map pieces to the solution, but many visitors try nearly every trail before ultimate success!

For those that may be unfamiliar with the format, this is a corn (maize) field maze that is indeed challenging for young and old alike. It is a wonderful family event. Many students attend with their classes during weekday times. Church and social groups will also find the challenge to be fun and perhaps competitive.

Rural Hill is a 265 acre historical site in Huntersville that was the original homestead of Major John Davidson and his family. This is the location of the Lake Norman Highland Games and other events during the year. The location will also host the “Rural Hill Sheep Dog Trials” on November 13 & 14 this year.
