Important Event — Candidates Forum, Thursday, October 14

The Candidates Forum held in New Neighborhood around election time has become a very popular annual event. This year it will be co-sponsored by the Lake Norman Chamber, DavidsonNews.net (David Boraks, editor), and St. Alban’s Square Neighborhood Association. Key races this year focus on County Commission seats: three at large seats and the District 1 seat. Karen Bentley is running unopposed for the District 1 seat and there are seven candidates for the at-large seats. Candidates for the N. C. State Senate District 40 seat for Mecklenburg County [Malcolm Graham (d), incumbent, and John Aneralla (r)] and candidates for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s race [Chipp Bailey (d), incumbent, and Christopher R. Hailey (r)] will also participate. The 98th District State Representative Thom Tillis is running unopposed for another term and has been invited to make comments. With the current economic downturn, there will obviously be many issues regarding the financial recovery and future of Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

Please join this Candidates Forum on Thursday, October 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at St. Alban’s Church. The meeting will be open to other neighborhoods and the Lake Norman community and, with added area publicity, we expect a large turnout.

As with past candidate forums, the format will include a brief three minute opening by each candidate followed by a moderated question and answer session, including questions from the floor. If you have advance questions of general interest, please forward these to Dave Smith at 704.987.1472 (davidbsmith@bellsouth.net) or Bill McCoy at 704.987.1877 (wjmccoy@uncc.edu).

Special thanks go to Bill McCoy and Sherman Kahn of the neighborhood, to David Boraks of DavidsonNews.net, and to Bill Russell of the Lake Norman Chamber for their efforts in making this happen.
