August 26 (Thursday) – October 6 (Wednesday) – “British Artist “Ewan Gibbs America” – Smith Gallery, Katherine and Tom Belk Visual Arts Center – Works by Ewan Gibbs will present a collection of drawings that feature iconic views of American cities. His process underscores the order and logic of the built environment.

August 26 (Thursday) – October 6 (Wednesday) - “Faculty Exhibition” - Van Every Gallery, Katherine and Tom Belk Visual Arts Center – The exhibition includes works by Rogers, sculptor Cort Savage, and printmaker Rebekah Tolley.

The Van Every/Smith Galleries are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from noon to 4 p.m. Programs are free and the public is welcome. For information, call 704.894.2519.

October 3 (Sunday) - 2010-2011 Concert Series, “Alan Black, Cello” – Tyler-Tallman Hall, 3:00 p.m. - Alan Black, principle cellist for the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, with violinist Rosemary Furniss and pianist Dana Protopopescu, will open the Concert Series season with a program of chamber music by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and Brahms.

October 21 (Thursday) - 2010-2011 Concert Series, “Tom Burge, Trombone” – Tyler-Tallman Hall, 7:30 p.m. – Charlotte Symphony Orchestra musician Tom Burge accompanied on piano by Cynthia Lawing, will perform a recital of classical trombone literature highlighting numerous composers, including a U.S. premiere of Eclectus, by Brendan Collins.

October 19 (Tuesday) – Davidson College Basketball Lunch in Charlotte – Covenant Presbyterian Church (1000 East Morehead Street), 12 noon to 1:15 p.m. – The Davidson Athletic Foundation invites you to join them for an inside look at a new season of Davidson College basketball with coaches Bob McKillop and Michele Savage. Cost: $18 per person.
