January 18 (Sunday) – “History of Sports at Davidson College”

Sponsored by the Davidson Historical Society, Davidson Town Hall (4:00 p.m.) – Sterling Martin, Davidson College alumnus (1963) and athlete, who recently retired after over 40 years with the college athletic department and as Director of the Lake Campus, will discuss the history of Davidson College sports. Come find out how the Wildcats got their name!

Davidson Senior Scholars Programs

(2:00 – 3:30 p.m., Davidson Parks & Recreation office (Room A, 416 Armour Street) – Programs are designed to stimulate continual intellectual and cultural growth. The general meeting format consists of lecture followed by question and answer. The speakers, often Davidson College professors and local physicians, are experts in their fields. Programs are free! January 28 (Wednesday) – “Reporting Community News in the Internet Age”Speaker: David Boraks – David has been a journalist for nearly 35 years and is founder and editor of DavidsonNews.net. He will discuss how local news reporting is changing, and how it’s staying the same, as local newspapers shrink and as the Internet becomes a more important information source. This will be a truly engaging discussion.

February 11 (Wednesday) – Speaker: Dr. McDonald, Lake Norman Regional Hospital.

February 25 (Wednesday) – “Free Will and Human Agency”Speaker: Meghan Griffith, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Davidson College – Her research focuses on contemporary metaphysics, specifically issues of free will and human action.
