Davidson College Events

April 1 - April 14New Works by MacArthur Freeman, II, William H. Van Every Gallery (Belk Visual Arts Center) – The narrative paintings and drawings of McArthur Freeman, visiting professor of art at Davidson, continue on exhibit.

April 20 – May 3 Student Juried Exhibition, William H. Van Every Gallery (Belk Visual Arts Center) – This annual exhibition of works by both art majors and non-art majors highlights works produced during the academic year. Pieces are selected by members of the studio faculty and awards of excellence are presented by a guest juror. The opening reception for the exhibition will be Thursday, April 20, from 3 – 5 p.m.

NOTE: Both the Van Every and Smith Galleries are located in the Belk Visual Arts Center at the corner of Main and Griffith Streets in Davidson. The galleries are handicap accessible, and free parking is available at the southwest corner of the building. All exhibitions are free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and noon to 4 p.m. on weekends. April 4 (Tuesday) – The Davidson College C. Shaw Smith Artist Series presents the New York-based theatre company, ‘The Civilians,’ for a presentation of their program, Gone Missing. This collection of short vignettes of song and sketch address the question: “Have you ever lost anything?” The performance starts at 8:00 p.m. in Duke Family Performance Hall. Tickets are $20. April 23 (Sunday) – Concert on the Green – Town Village Green (6 – 8 p.m.) – The Davidson College Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble will perform. Admission is free. Call 704.894.2357 for information.

MEN’S VARSITY / WOMEN’S VARSITY:

Tennis
The men’s and women’s teams are both well into the season. The women’s team is particularly impressive this year. Davidson’s men’s tennis coach, Jeff Frank, will retire at the end of June, 2006 after 34 years at the helm. Frank is the school’s all-time most winning coach in any sport, with winning records in 29 of his 33 seasons.
