Davidson College Events

October 15 (Friday) – December 8 (Wednesday) – “Artist Wafaa Bilal” – Van Every Gallery, Katherine and Tom Belk Visual Arts Center – This display is a multimedia exhibition featuring works by the Iraqi American contemporary artist Wafaa Bilal. On view will be recreations of recent performance-based installations in which Bilal uses his own body, both literally and virtually, to interrogate widely held assumptions of Middle Eastern culture and people.

The Van Every/Smith Galleries are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from noon to 4 p.m. Programs are free and the public is welcome. For information, call 704.894.2519.

November 9 (Tuesday) – 2010-2011 C. Shaw and Nancy K. Smith Artist Series, “ScrapArtsMusic” – Duke Family Performance Hall, 8 p.m. - Canadian-based ScrapArtsMusic excites the senses with intricate rhythms, raw energy, athletic choreography and the greenest (and most inventive) reuse of materials on stage today. Fashioned from industrial scrap and offbeat materials ranging from accordion parts to artillery shells, this group’s one-of-a-kind instruments are as visually striking as their music is sonically riveting. Tickets: General Public - $20; Faculty/Staff - $15. For ticket information, call 704.894.2135. Tickets may be purchased online, by calling 704.894.2135, in person at the Union Box Office (Monday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.), or at the door.
