Davidson Farmer's Market

The Davidson Farmer’s Market (next to Town Hall between Main and Jackson Streets) completes winter hours in March (second and fourth Saturdays, 9 a.m. until noon) and begins regular hours (8 a.m. until noon) on every Saturday starting on April 7!

This producer-only market features more than 35 local producers within a 100 mile radius selling a wide variety of locally grown vegetables and fruits, meats, eggs, honey, dairy and fresh flowers, as well as baked goods, soaps and farmer-made crafts. The market is a lively gathering place for meeting friends and for learning about food, agriculture and nutrition. Themed market days and activities are planned throughout the year. Davidson Senior Scholars Programs

Third Wednesday from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Davidson Parks & Rec office (Room A, 416 Armour Street) – This activity was formed to provide programs that stimulate continual intellectual and cultural growth. The general meeting format consists of lecture followed by question and answer. The speakers, often Davidson College professors and local physicians, are experts in their fields. March 21 (Wednesday) – “The French Presidential Election in 2012”Dr. Homer Sutton, Professor of French at Davidson College, will discuss the many candidates for the first round of the election, offer predictions, examine the challenges facing the next President of the French Republic, and compare the election process with that of the U.S.

April 18 (Wednesday) – “Travels with Connie”Connie Beach, travel agent with Mann Travel and travel advisor to the Davidson community, will discuss some of the inside secrets for customizing your own travel plans while sharing some of the more memorable escapades that she and her clients have experienced.

Arts

April 13 (Friday) April is for Arts Gallery Crawl (6:00 – 9:00 p.m.) – The Gallery Crawl includes Davidson galleries, restaurants, businesses and Davidson Town Hall. Local and regional artists will showcase their work in participating Davidson businesses. Visitors will enjoy works of art in a variety of media from nearly 50 of the region’s finest artists. Participants can park at one of nine stops and ride the trolley to different venues, where they can enjoy the art, live music and refreshments. This event is FREE to the public and is part of “April is for Arts,” a celebration of arts and culture

April 21 (Saturday – 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.) and April 22 (Sunday – noon – 4 p.m.) - Art on the Green, Davidson Village Green – This enormously popular event brings thousands of people to Davidson to enjoy art, live music, and food. This juried art festival features booths filled with top quality art works from artists throughout the region. Artists will be on hand demonstrating their talents. Join the town for an exciting weekend filled with visual, musical, and culinary arts!

19th Annual Rural Hill Scottish Festival & Loch Norman Highland Games

April 21 (Saturday), and April 22 (Sunday) - Answer the call of the Scottish clans as Historic Rural Hill celebrates the Loch Norman Highland Games. Events are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Highland games, filled with the tradition, color and pageantry of an international family reunion, are a feast for the senses and a hands-on experience. Join the history and heritage, including music, games, food, shopping, dancing, highland athletics, historic reenactments, piping and drumming, and much more. Saturday night includes a concert featuring seven national acts of traditional and Celtic rock music. The event is open to all, Scot or not, and is a family oriented event. Rural Hill is a 265 acre historical site in Huntersville that was the original homestead of Major John Davidson and his family. It is a restoration in progress and includes plantation ruins and a one-room 1890’s schoolhouse.

50+ Coffee Club

Come and join friends and neighbors every Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until 12 noon at the Parks & Recreation Department (Armour Street) for coffee, snacks and a social opportunity. No registration is required.
