Davidson College Events

June 13 August 5 (except week of July 4th) – Day Camp at the Lake – Weekly day camp sessions are available for boys and girls grades 5-9. All activities (swimming, sailing, canoeing, water skiing, tubing, and games) take place at the college’s beautiful Lake Campus. Sessions are open and subject to availability. There is a $50 registration fee and cost per child is $300 per session (discount for families). July 21 – July 31 – “Moon Over Buffalo” – Davidson Community Players highlights the art of comedy in Moon Over Buffalo. In the madcap tradition of Lend me a Tenor, the hilarious show centers on two aging thespians who have one more shot at stardom. Unfortunately, everything that could go wrong does go wrong. Raucous misunderstandings pile on madcap misadventures, and what happens will be anyone’s guess. Moon Over Buffalo packs more comic genius onto the stage than anything in recent memory!

Performances are in the Duke Family Performance Hall at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21 – Saturday, July 23 and Thursday, July 28 – Saturday, July 30. There is a 2:00 p.m. matinee on both Sunday, July 24 and Sunday, July 31. Tickets are $22 for general admission. Please call 704.372.1000 for reservations or visit www.carolinatix.org.

August 17 – 23 – Davidson College students return for the 2011-2012 academic year. Wednesday, August 17, is an optional check-in day for new students, with a full orientation from Thursday, August 18, through Sunday, August 21. The first day of classes for everyone is on Monday, August 22.
Please drive carefully around the campus during this time. Parents are likely to be very confused!

WOW – World of Wonder
A Nature Discovery Program for the entire Family!

July 9 (Saturday) – “Who’s Chomping the Kudzu?” (10-11 a.m.) – Have you heard about the kudzu-eating goats at Davidson College? The College had a kudzu problem, and they wanted a chemical-free solution . . . goats! A herd of goats is eating up the kudzu and the public has been given an opportunity to access the area. Irvin Brawley, retired Director of Grounds at Davidson College, will lead the way to the goats, pointing out other invasive plants along the path. The outing is open to children and their families. (Minimum age: 6 years; No strollers or dogs.)

The event is sponsored by Davidson Lands Conservancy and Woodland Discovery. Pre-registration is required. Contact Erin Burke at dlc.wow@gmail.com. Also visit www.woodlandsdiscovery.org and www.davidsonlands.org.
