SPINN 2006 — A Great SuccessSpin 2006 was a huge success and enjoyed by all in attendance! The list of neighbors and donors that contributed to the party is a wonderful example of how things get done through good people and generous businesses. First on the list would be Leigh Ann & Tom Hamic and Teresa & Brian Furlong, our organizers for this year’s event. We all owe them many thanks and congratulations for a job well done. Thanks should also go to Steve & Kathy Watts for helping with children’s games again this year and to Celia & Jeff Felthaus for providing great notes and experience as last year’s organizers. Jayne & Ed Braxton and Judy & Fred Hochman performed the task of greeting neighbors and providing name tags. A big thank you goes to Adria & Woody Appleby for doing an overwhelming amount of work with regard to pick-up, delivery, and serving of our main course. They also helped with clean-up and return of all the hardware to the catering service. Dave Smith acted as the Master-of-Ceremonies this year. Steve Lee, pastor of Mountain View United Methodist Church and our own neighborhood webmaster, gave the blessing at mealtime. Norm Reid, our Association treasurer, did an excellent job of providing checks and prompt payments for the many bills associated with such an activity. John & Marcia Williamson, Nick Macos, and Tom Fischer, along with the organizers, provided strong muscle and a lot of soul during clean-up and stacking of tables and chairs. Although he was unable to attend the festivities, Doug Boone was kind enough to run water hoses for the kid’s activities and string electrical wiring for the PA system. Thanks go to Kerry Smith, Dave & Gretchen’s daughter, for taking pictures throughout the day. This year we were blessed to have a number of generous sponsors. Knox Realty (Doug Knox) provided the Moon Walk for the kids. Market Properties (Celeste Colcord) in one of our workplace units sponsored the air slide, another big hit with the kids. Thanks again go to Lesley Swartz and Pepsi for many of our Pepsi products. Our food this year was obtained at a great price from Incredible Edibles right here in Davidson. Main Street Books and The Wooden Stone both provided gift certificates that were used as prizes for our bingo winners. If you have an opportunity to see any of these individuals or visit one of the businesses, please introduce yourself as a resident of New Neighborhood and give them a big THANK YOU for their contribution. SPINN 2006 was attended by 300+ residents, friends, and visitors. The Davidson Police Department was well represented. Vera Victorino and Rachel Gold of Abbott Enterprises also stopped by for a visit. Can you remember going to company and neighborhood parties with parents? Somehow, you never remember why the event was held or anything about the food. You just remember the FUN! “Hey, Mom, you can’t get me in here! This is just for kids and you can’t play!” “Hey, a room with a view. This is pretty neat! And it comes with no adults. How much is the rent?” “Hey, where’s all the cool dog play equipment? I’m ready for a little tug-of-war!” The great flying SPINNdini! There must have been
a requirement to go airborne. Some kids prefer the sideways technique without the airborne fling. It looks like fun either way! There was no lack of food. Neighbors brought lots of other dishes and there was enough left for a few “Fido” bags! Good neighbors make great friends for life! There are no frowning faces in this picture. We will end our picture montage with what else?
Desserts! Thus ends another SPINN celebration. Again, we owe many thanks to
all the volunteers and wonderful neighbors who helped make this event
a huge success. And the weather was probably the best so far this year.
Several people took credit for that, but we are not listing those names
until after hurricane season. |
