Neighborhood Social Events

All Neighbors Welcome

Every Morning (7:00 a.m.) – The Board Walkers meet at the corner of Twain Avenue and the intersection of Mary Jane McConnell and Miriam G. Tuttle Byways to begin their 50 to 60 minute walk around the area. If you would like more information, please call Bonne McCoy at 704-987-1877.

Neighborhood Discussion Group

The Neighborhood Discussion Group is making a come-back! Thanks to Sherman Kahn and Bill McCoy, there are plans to restart the program in September with a “Candidate’s Forum” (prior to November elections). St. Albans Church is permitting the neighborhood to use the church sanctuary in September and for future programs as long as there is no direct conflict with another church function. St. Albans Church has also agreed to promote the Discussion Group programs in their newsletter and church bulletins.

Programs will be scheduled about once per quarter, with no schedule during the summer months. If you have suggestions for topics, programs, and speakers please contact Sherman Kahn (phone 704.655.8965 or e-mail at wa8lit@aol.com) or Bill McCoy (phone 704.987.1877 or e-mail at bonneiskate@aol.com). Volunteers to help with planning and arrangements for these programs are always welcome! This was a great activity for several years and it is good to see it return to New Neighborhood.

Casual Golfers!

Since last summer, a small group from the neighborhood has been playing golf on more or less a weekly basis. We play at six different courses in the area with a maximum green and cart fee of $25.00. Currently the day of the week changes to meet the schedule of the players. If you are interested, please contact Bill McCoy at 704.987.1877 (bonnieskate@aol.com) or Tom Fischer at 704.894.0222 (tsfischer@adelphia.net).

Women’s Wednesday Bridge Club has permanently moved their meeting time to the second Wednesday of each month. The club will not meet in July or August and will resume a regular schedule on September 13. For more information about the Bridge Club, please contact Jean Gilcrest at 704.895.0839.
