Candidate Profiles for New
Council of Stewards Nominees

At the annual Membership Meeting on Tuesday, August 14, owners will have the opportunity to vote for three vacancies on the Council of Stewards. Two vacancies are created by the expired terms of Sherman Kahn and Norm Reid. Both men have served the neighborhood well, but are stepping down to pursue other interests. The third opening is created by the expiration of the term filled by Dave Stout in March of 2006 when Virginia Hart moved out of the neighborhood. All three slots are for three year terms.
As outlined in the by-laws of the Association, a Nominating Committee appointed by the Council of Stewards has presented a slate of candidates to fill these three positions. The following profiles are presented to help you become familiar with each candidate:

Zelime (Lemie) Richards
243 North Faulkner Way (townhome)

Lemie and husband Norman moved to Davidson in 1976 with their four sons. Lemie taught pre-school at Davidson College Presbyterian Church, worked in the Development Office at Davidson College, and served as secretary at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. Lemie and Norman retired and moved to New Neighborhood four years ago. The townhome suits their interest in travel. They have nine grandchildren to also keep things busy. Other interests include reading, sewing, gardening, and activities at the YMCA. Norman and Lemie have helped with SPINN events. Lemie has been a member of the Newsletter & Website Committee from the very beginning and looks forward to getting to know the neighborhood better through service on the Council of Stewards.

David (Dave) Stout
328 O. Henry Avenue (single-family home)

Dave and his wife Shannon moved into the neighborhood in April of 2004 after relocating to the area from Colorado in November of 2003. They have two children, a daughter in Virginia and a son who is a senior at Florida State. They also have a 15-month old grandson to occupy their proud moments! Both Dave and Shannon work for Allstate Insurance Company. Interests include travel, motorcycling, cars, and outdoor events. They belong to St. Alban’s Church and feel fortunate to have such a neighborhood “family.” Dave has served on the Architectural Review Committee since its inception and has been a member of the Council of Stewards since March of 2006 to complete the term of Virginia Hart. Shannon has served on the Landscape & Grounds Committee and is presently the Chairperson for the Covenant Committee. Dave has agreed to serve another (full) term on the Council of Stewards and looks forward to continuing his already successful service.

John Williamson
308 O. Henry Avenue (single-family home)

John and his wife Marcia moved to New Neighborhood to their “retirement” home in December of 2003. They were already in Davidson, just 0.6 mile away! They have one daughter, two sons, and five grandchildren. John, originally a native of Bladen County, North Carolina, has followed a rigorous academic career. He graduated with a BS from N.C. State University, a MS degree from Cornell University, and a PhD from the University of Georgia. He has also held research positions at Oak Ridge National Laboratories and University of California, Riverside. He was a faculty member at University of Calgary, Alberta, from 1969 to 1982 and came to Davidson College as a professor and Chair of the Biology Department. John retired in 2000, but continues work on books on his family ancestors. He is currently working on “Tales of Columbus,” a pictorial history of Columbus County, NC. John and Marcia have helped start a couple’s bridge group in the neighborhood. John has also served as a member of the Landscape & Grounds Committee and he and Marcia both are regulars on the delivery crew for the newsletter.

Important! Don’t forget to return your ballot and proxy to Abbott Enterprises or to a Council of Stewards member if you cannot attend the Membership Meeting on August 14.

NOTE: The Council of Stewards meets regularly on the fourth Wednesday of every other month in St. Alban’s Church classroom (lower level) at 7:00 p.m. Special meetings are called as needed. Meetings are open to residents. The next regular COS meeting is scheduled on August 22, 2007.
