Davidson College Events

March 14 – April 16 – Tonya J. Clay: Mindscapes in a MultiPlied Moment – Van Every/Smith Galleries, Katherine and Tom Belk Visual Arts Center – Mixed media artist, Tonya J. Clay, is the 2006-08 Davidson College Visiting Professor of Art. Reflecting on her work, Clay says, “I expect my paintings to have strong psychological and emotional impact on myself as I go through the process of making them, and on viewers as they experience the finished work. My art represents the internal world of emotion and psychic activity, the essence of being human.”

Throughout the spring semester, 2008 Senior Studio Art Majors will present their Thesis Exhibitions. These exhibits generally run for one week per student and are worth a visit.

The Every/Smith Galleries are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from noon to 4 p.m. Programs are free and the public is welcome. For information, call 704.894.2519.

How about them ’Cats!

The Davidson basketball team has single-handedly thrown the college and the Town of Davidson into celebrity status. Their march to the “Elite Eight” in the NCAA tournament is nothing short of amazing. After the second round victory over Georgetown, Davidson-related keywords were the hottest terms on Google, including the No. 1 spot and four of the top ten searches. Davidson is no longer a well-kept secret. Does anyone have tickets for the 2008-2009 season?

The spring brings more great sports opportunities. The Men’s Varsity baseball season continues. Men’s and Women’s Varsity tennis is underway. The Women’s Varsity lacrosse team will play though April.
