The Van Every/Smith Galleries of the Belk Visual Arts Center has organized the first survey exhibition of works on paper by contemporary American artist Robert Lazzarini. The fifty works on display parallel concepts explored in his sculptural work and includes three limited-edition woodcut prints based on a 15th century German manuscript leaf. The exhibition will be accompanied by a full-color catalogue that includes an interview with Robert Lazzarini by renowned artist Chuck Close. Lazzarini will speak about his work during an opening reception on January 14 (Saturday) at 6:30 p.m. in Tyler-Tallman Hall of the Sloan Music Center. There is no charge to attend. The gallery is open to the public from 10-5 weekdays and noon-4 on weekends. For more information, please call 704.894.2519.

January 23 – February 4 – Royal Shakespeare Company Residency Program

The Company returns to Davidson with “Infinite Variety: Love and Family in Shakespeare.” The two-week educational residency with RSC Learning will comprise programs and workshops for the college and greater community that will center on educational, personal, and historical aspects of love and family as expressed in the works and time of William Shakespeare. The RSC at Davidson partnership began in 2002 and will continue through 2008 with educational and performance residencies. Although this year’s calendar of events will not include performances as in 2005, the events and forums present a rare community opportunity.
