Davidson College Events

August 28 – October 8 2008 Faculty Art Exhibition: Herb Jackson, Lydia Musco, Ryan O’Malley, and Cort Savage – Van Every/Smith Galleries, Katherine and Tom Belk Visual Arts Center – This annual Studio Faculty Exhibition features new sculptures by Cort Savage, new paintings by Herb Jackson, and a special site-specific installation by Ryan O’Malley. New visiting Associate Professor of Art Lydia Musco will present an installation of large-scale concrete works that are inspired by modern and ancient architectural construction practices. The opening reception will be held on August 28, 7:00-9:00 p.m., with Lydia Musco speaking at 7:30 p.m.

The Every/Smith Galleries are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from noon to 4 p.m. Programs are free and the public is welcome. For information, call 704.894.2519.

September 17 (Wednesday) – 2008-2009 C. Shaw and Nancy K. Smith Artist Series, “Break! The Urban Funk Spectacular” – A distinctive American art form with hazy African roots that run deep through the streets of inner cities, Hip Hop defies easy definition. BREAK! traces the history of Hip Hop Dancing over the last thirty years. “Break! The Urban Funk Spectacular” is the cutting edge of dance at the dawn of the 21st century! Tickets: General Public - $20; Faculty/Staff - $15; Students - $8. The performance is held in the Duke Family Performance Hall beginning at 8:00 p.m. For ticket information, call 704.894.2135. 2008-2009 Concert Series – Season tickets will soon be available for the Concert Series, featuring five exciting performances. The first concert is expected to be in November. Tickets may be purchased online, by calling 704.894.2135, in person at the Union Box Office (Monday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.), or at the door. Subscribe to the Concert Series early and receive tickets to all five shows for the price of four!
