New Event – Don’t Miss the Fun!

Neighborhood Dinner Group

September 18 (Tuesday) – The Neighborhood Dinner Group will have their first event at Kudzu on the Green.

After studying responses to the survey that was placed in the newsletter in July, Arvind Patil found that the neighborhood was more in support of a mixed dinner event as opposed to a “Men or Women only” format. To this end he has planned neighborhood dinners (couples, singles, & guests) from September through March on the third Tuesday of each of these months. Tuesday is one of the less busy days for most restaurants and it is anticipated that they will handle a group dinner better on that day. If the group does become too big, special arrangements are possible. It is hoped that each restaurant will prepare choices in advance at a fixed price. If these dinners are successful, future plans may include transportation arrangements and perhaps some uptown Charlotte spots. For now, the group will focus on Lake Norman restaurants:

September 18 – Kudzu on the Green (Davidson)
October 16 – Soiree (Mooresville)
November 20 – Dresslers (Birkdale Village, Huntersville)

In order to plan ahead for each month, Arvind Patil will need to know in advance who is planning to attend. Please notify him by the second Thursday of each month (five days before the dinner night) by phone at 704.892.9608 or by e-mail at aspatil@bellsouth.net. Arvind has developed an extensive e-mail list for notification and reminders. If you want to be put on this list, please let him know.

At this point, plans are flexible and changes in format and restaurant locations can be made according to the group’s wishes. This event has been a popular one in the past and will likely be a big hit again. Many thanks are due Arvind for taking on the planning and organization.

We can all look forward to neighborhood fellowship,
good times, and great food!

Candidate Forum Set for October 4

Election Day (November 6) is drawing near for 2007 and perhaps the hottest races this year are in our own community. Two candidates are seeking the position of mayor since Randy Kincaid announced that he will step down after ten years. Current Town Board member John Woods and William E. Jackson Jr. are running for the position. Two incumbents, Margo Williams and Evan Webster, and seven challengers are in a race for the five seats on the Town Board. The challengers include Rodney Graham (N. Faulkner Way), Brian Jenest (Woodland Street), Bill Johnson (Armour Street), Lenny McAllister (Beaty Street), Ian Robb (Peninsula Drive), Laurie Venzon (Tributary Court), and Fountain Walker (N. Thompson Street).

Major issues in this race obviously include rapid growth and exploding development along with the purchase of the local cable system, improvement of town relationships, and regional cooperation in North Mecklenburg. This race stands to be very important to the future of the Town of Davidson.

Please join a Candidate Forum organized by the Neighborhood Discussion Group on Thursday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at St. Alban’s Church. The forum last September for candidates in the race for Mecklenburg County Commission was lively and informative and drew a large crowd from areas outside of our own neighborhood. We expect this discussion to be even bigger and more important due to the local impact. The meeting will be open to other neighborhoods and the Town community.

Our thanks go to Bill McCoy (phone 704.987.1877 or bonneiskate@aol.com) and Sherman Kahn (phone 704.655.8965 or wa8lit@aol.com) for their organization and efforts to make this happen. Please call either Bill or Sherman if you have questions or suggestions regarding the event.

Keep informed on the issues! Don’t miss this opportunity
to meet the candidates!
