Neighborhood Discussion Group

Candidates’ Forum
Wednesday, September 27, 7:00 p.m.
St. Alban’s Episcopal Church Sanctuary

This is an “off-election” year in the minds of many voters. However, four of the nine seats of the Mecklenburg County Commission are up for election and all are being contested. The spaces that will appear on the ballet on November 7 are for the three at-large seats and the District 1 (North Mecklenburg) seat (all 2-year terms). It is hoped that we will have all eight candidates on a panel at this September meeting.

After a brief introduction, several minutes will be allocated to each candidate to make a statement. The moderator, our own Bill McCoy, will follow with some general questions for each candidate. Questions will then be taken from the audience. Refreshments and time to meet each candidate will follow the forum.
It is a common complaint that Mecklenburg politics often leaves out the north end of the county. Here is an excellent opportunity to have a voice and to make informed decisions about our future in November. We hope to have an excellent turn-out and are planning to open this forum to other neighborhood communities, the church, and citizens of Davidson. Please plan to attend a worthy event and the re-inauguration of our Neighborhood Discussion Group. Needless to say, political candidates like big crowds!

Many thanks go to Bill McCoy and Sherman Kahn for making the commitment to plan and restart the Discussion Group. Programs will be scheduled about once per quarter, with no schedule during the summer months. If you have suggestions for programs and speakers, contact Bill McCoy (phone 704.987.1877 or e-mail bonneiskate@aol.com) or Sherman Kahn (phone 704.655.8965 or e-mail wa8lit@aol.com). Volunteers to help with planning and arrangements for these programs are always welcome!
