Neighborhood Social Events

All Neighbors Welcome

Every Morning (7:00 a.m.) – The Board Walkers meet at the corner of Twain Avenue and the intersection of Mary Jane McConnell and Miriam G. Tuttle Byways to begin their 50 to 60 minute walk around the area. If you would like more information, please call Bonne McCoy at 704-987-1877.

Annual Candidates’ Forum

The Candidate’s Forum held in New Neighborhood around election time has now become a fall tradition. The forum will be co-sponsored by DavidsonNews.net, the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce, and St. Alban’s Square Neighborhood Association. Races this year for seats on the Davidson Town Board will bring forth many new faces and new opinions. Don’t miss an opportunity to be informed of the issues and views on your future. (Mecklenburg County School Board candidates will be invited to the forum, but will not be given time to speak formally. The public may ask questions following the meeting in the church atrium.)

As with past candidate forums, the format will include a brief opening by each candidate followed by a moderated question and answer session, including questions from the floor. If you have advance questions of general interest, please forward these to Bill McCoy at 704.987.1877 or at wjmccoy@uncc.edu.

Please join this exciting event on Tuesday, October 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Alban’s Church. The meeting will be open to other neighborhoods and the Lake Norman community and, with increased area publicity, we expect a large turnout.

Special thanks go to Bill McCoy and Sherman Kahn of the neighborhood, to David Boraks of DavidsonNews.net, and to Bill Russell of the Lake Norman Chamber for their efforts in making this happen.

Neighborhood Dinner Group

Due to conflict with the event from Political Forum on October 18, we will not have any Neighborhood Dinner Group event in the month of October. We plan to go to Dresslers on November 15.

If you are not already on the notification e-mail list, please get in touch with Arvind Patil (phone: 704.892.9608; or e-mail: aspatil@bellsouth.net) to be added.

Community Garden

The Community Garden is located in our neighborhood along the gas pipeline to the east of St. Alban’s Church. This garden has grown in popularity and is expected to expand. If you are interested in being a part of this “growing” experience and want to add your name to the list, please contact Susan Andre at aredtailhawk1@gmail.com.

Multi-Family Yard Sale

October 8 (Saturday) — Multi-Family Yard Sale (Caldwell Lane), 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. – Find treasures and more right here in New Neighborhood! Rain date will be the following Saturday, October 15. For information, please call Barbara Dillman at 704.896.6368.

Women

Due to dwindling numbers, the Women’s Bridge Club will no longer meet each month. Our neighborhood thanks Jean Gilcrest for her long service and organization of this event.

October 27 (Thursday) — New Da Daytimers Book Club will meet at The Pines for the annual Davidson Book Clubs Tea at 3:00 p.m. The speaker this year will be Dannye Romine Powell. She writes on life in Charlotte and the Carolinas for the Local section of The Charlotte Observer. For more information about the Book Club, please call Lovenia Summerville, president, at 704.987.8574.

Men

October 13 (Thursday) — The Men’s Group Breakfast will meet at the Cookhouse Restaurant (Shoppes on the Green complex, I-77 exit 28 in Cornelius) at 7:30 a.m. The men have their breakfast on the second Thursday of each month. We are hoping to continue this tradition after a summer break. For information or to get on the contact list, e-mail Bill McCoy at wjmccoy@uncc.edu or phone at 704.987.1877.
