Neighborhood Discussion GroupCandidate Forum - October 4The hottest races this year on Election Day (November 6) may be in our own community. Two candidates are seeking the position of mayor since Randy Kincaid announced that he will step down after ten years. Current Town Board member John Woods and William E. Jackson Jr. are running for the position. Two incumbents, Margo Williams and Evan Webster, and seven challengers are in a race for the five seats on the Town Board. The challengers include Rodney Graham, Brian Jenest, Bill Johnson, Lenny McAllister, Ian Robb, Laurie Venzon, and Fountain Walker. Major issues in this race obviously include rapid growth and exploding development, along with the purchase of the local cable system, improvement of town relationships, and regional cooperation in North Mecklenburg. This race stands to be very important to the future of the Town of Davidson. Please join a Candidate Forum organized by the Neighborhood Discussion Group on Thursday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at St. Alban’s Church. The meeting will be open to other neighborhoods and the Town community and we expect a large turnout. As with past candidate forums, the format will include a brief three minute opening by each candidate followed by a moderated question and answer session, including questions from the floor. If you have advance questions of general interest, please forward these to Dave Smith at 704.987.1472 (davidbsmith@bellsouth.net). Following the formal session, refreshments will be available and there will be an opportunity to speak informally with the candidates. Thanks go to Bill McCoy (phone 704.987.1877 or e-mail at bonneiskate@aol.com) and Sherman Kahn (phone 704.655.8965 or e-mail at wa8lit@aol.com) for their efforts to make this happen. Please call either Bill or Sherman if you have questions or suggestions regarding the event. Don’t miss the perfect opportunity to meet the candidates and to be an informed voter! |
