Neighborhood Discussion Group

The Neighborhood Discussion Group in September was a huge success with over thirty neighbors attending a Candidate’s Forum composed of seven candidates running for positions on the Mecklenburg County Commission. In attendance were Jim Puckett (R), Dan Ramirez (R), Kaye McGarry (R), Jennifer Roberts (D), and Wilhelmenia Rembert (D) running for 3 at-large seats and Karen Bentley (R) and Thurman Ross (D) running for the District 1 (North Mecklenburg) seat.

Issues ranged from taxation to economic development to environment to public safety, with education dominating the concerns and questions of attendees. Discussion was at times heated, but always interesting and informative. Residents who were unable to attend missed one of the best Discussion Group sessions ever held.

Our next program will be early in 2007, so please look for details in the newsletter. Many thanks go to Bill McCoy and Sherman Kahn for making the commitment to plan and restart these programs. Meetings will be scheduled about once per quarter, with no schedule during the summer months.

If you have suggestions for programs and speakers, contact Bill McCoy (phone 704.987.1877 or e-mail bonneiskate@aol.com) or Sherman Kahn (phone 704.655.8965 or e-mail wa8lit@aol.com). Volunteers to help with planning and arrangements for these programs are always welcome!

Volunteers Needed!

It is time to plan for our next Neighborhood Dinner Out. The dinner last November at Kudzu Restaurant was an overwhelming success. Volunteers are needed to plan this event. If interested, please call Patti and Ron Mercer at 704.894.9411 for ideas from past dinners. This is always a fun event and can be easy to plan with enough help.

Weekday Casual Golfers!

Since last summer, a small group from the neighborhood has been playing golf on more or less a weekly basis. We play at six different courses in the area with a maximum green and cart fee of $25.00. Currently the day of the week changes to meet the schedule of the players. If you are interested, please contact Bill McCoy at 704.987.1877 (bonnieskate@aol.com) or Tom Fischer at 704.894.0222 (tsfischer@adelphia.net).
