Davidson College Events

October 4 (Wednesday) – Symphony Concert – The Davidson College Symphony Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble will perform. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Duke Family Performance Hall and there is no charge to attend. Call 704.894.2357 for information.

October 12 – December 6Art Exhibition – “The Force of Nature” – The Van Every/Smith Galleries and the Halsey Institute of the College of Charleston are partnering with four other local art institutions to present this exhibit. This innovative and experimental exhibition features new work by ten artists from Japan. Davidson will host Yuri Shibata and Takasumi Abe. The two artists will meet the public at a reception and gallery talk October 12 from 7 – 9 p.m. The Van Every/Smith Galleries are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends from noon to 4 p.m. Programs are free and the public is welcome. October 13 (Friday) – Concert Series, Davidson College – The American Chamber Players will present a performance beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Tyler-Tallman Hall of Sloan Music Center. General admission is $20 ($15 for seniors). For ticket information, call 704.894.2135 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, or order online at www.davidson.edu/tickets.

October 18 – 22 – “Summer and Smoke” – Professor of Theatre Ann Marie Costa directs this Tennessee Williams play as a theatre department mainstage production. The show begins October 18-19 at 7:30 p.m., October 20-21 at 8:15 p.m., and October 22 at 2:00 p.m. in Duke Family Performance Hall. General admission is $14 (Seniors - $11). October 20 – 22 – Family Weekend – Davidson College welcomes students’ parents and families for weekend activities. NOTE: This weekend draws a large crowd. Please drive with extra care during this time.

“A Night with the Cats”

Davidson College basketball is just around the corner! Mark your calendars and join the fun and games for all ages. Activities include a cake walk, free children’s carnival & prizes, student competitions, food vendors, and performances by the 2006-2007 Davidson Men’s and Women’s basketball teams.

This event was a big success last year and a larger crowd is expected this year. Fans of all ages will meet the players up close and personal at the various game booths, including Coca-Cola ring toss, milk can toss, clown bean bag, football toss, obstacle course, inflatable slide, and others.
