Davidson College Events

October 19 – December 12 Collected Light: Photography from the Permanent Collection and Davidson Open Photography Exhibition – Katherine and Tom Belk Visual Arts Center – Collected Light (Van Every/Smith Galleries) will feature works from Davidson College’s vast collection of photography by seminal artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The Open Photography Exhibition is an open call to all students, faculty, and staff to enter a photo-based work for display in the Edward M. Smith Gallery in conjunction with Collected Light. The galleries are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from noon to 4 p.m. Programs are free and the public is welcome. For information, call 704.894.2575.

November 5 (Monday)– Concert Series: Ensemble East – Tyler-Tallman Hall, Sloan Music Center (7:30-9:00 p.m.) - From tales of the Geisha, to poetry of nature, the stories of old Japan unfold through rich musical tradition represented by Ensemble East. The Japanese chamber music ensemble features koto (Japanese zither) and shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute). Tickets are available at the door, online, by calling 704.894.2135, or by visiting the Union Box Office in the Knobloch Campus Center. [General Admission - $20; Seniors/Faculty/Staff - $15; Students – free at the door.]

November 9 (Friday) – Artist Series: ArcheDream for HUMANKIND – Duke Family Performance Hall (8:00 p.m.) –Inspired by native forms of dance ritual traditions, ArcheDream is a multi-disciplinary mask theatre that combines the colorful masks and costumes of African dance with concepts of mythology, Western classical theatre, dance, and archetypes. Tickets may be purchased at 704.894.2135 or in person at the Union Box Office (10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday – Friday). [General Public - $20; Faculty/Staff - $15; Students - $8.]

Men’s and Women’s Soccer ends during the first week of November with one home game each. As the football schedule moves to a close, the Wildcats basketball season is ready to begin. The Men’s schedule has some great games with North Carolina and with Duke at the Bobcats Arena in Charlotte.  Could the ‘Cats be heading for National recognition again?
