Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pound ought and six, result misery.

— Charles Dickens (1812 – 1870)

Amazing! Someone as far back as two centuries ago understood economics. Why is it so hard for us in the twenty-first century to understand this basic principle? It appears that we have absolutely no politician alive today that can comprehend this simple fact, at least not in an election year!

What a vicious cycle we perpetuate! Three years of arguing about the way things should be, and one year doing nothing for fear that the electorate won’t re-elect the same people so they can spent four more years arguing and doing nothing.

Don’t you find this just a little bit ridiculous?
