The Last PageOn Monday, April 16, 2007, our country was rocked with the news of the tragic shooting rampage at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. As a former long-time resident of Virginia, it was hard not to find numerous friends and family that did not have some link to the terrible tragedy. As residents of New Neighborhood and as part of the Town of Davidson, we also rank ourselves among those close-knit communities found in all “college towns.” I doubt that many of us have not considered the fact that this could have occurred anywhere in our country. Virginia Tech has a student family of 26,000 students, compared with Davidson College’s level of 1600. However, the shock impact on all of us is no less felt and the genuine feelings of hurt and sympathy for the families and friends of the victims pour from each of us. You may have noticed in the report on
the meeting of the Council of Stewards on April 25 that a moment
of silence was observed in memory of the Tech students and
families. For most of us, words are just not enough. |
