Davidson College Events

January 20 – February 17 – Royal Shakespeare Company at Davidson Residency – This month-long celebration, now in its fourth year of a five-year program, offers performances and free public events.

The 2008 RSC at Davidson Residency features a new play project. Written by playwright Rona Munro and commissioned by the RSC, the play will be developed in association with Davidson College with a cast under the direction of Roxana Silbert. Three “work-in-progress” performances of the play will be presented in the Duke Family Performance Hall on February 15 – 17. Tickets will be available to the Davidson College community beginning January 16, and will go on sale to the general public beginning January 28. January 25 (Friday) – Artist Series [Special Engagement]: Fugaku Taiko – Duke Family Performance Hall (8:00 p.m.) –The C. Shaw and Nancy K. Smith Artist Series is excited to announce this special performance by Fugaku Taiko. This incredible taiko drumming ensemble has traveled all the way from the Mt. Fuji area of Japan. Fugaku Taiko’s spectacular performance style, featuring a combination of artist skill, dexterity, and physical endurance, is certain to heat things up this winter. Ticket prices are $8 for Davidson students and $15 for the public (non-students). 2007-2008 Artist Series season ticket holders receive a special discount on this performance. January 29 (Tuesday) – Artist Series: Hubbard Street 2 – Duke Family Performance Hall (8:00 p.m.) –Hubbard Street 2 is a company of dancers who celebrate their 10th anniversary this season. These dancers perform a repertoire of works by some of the nation’s most promising young choreographers. HS2 reaches more than 35,000 people annually through performances in schools, community centers and theaters. Tickets may be purchased at 704.894.2135 or in person at the Union Box Office (10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday – Friday). [General Public - $20; Faculty/Staff - $15; Students - $8.]
