October 19 – December 12 Collected Light: Photography from the Permanent Collection and Davidson Open Photography Exhibition – Katherine and Tom Belk Visual Arts Center – Collected Light (Van Every/Smith Galleries) will feature works from Davidson College’s vast collection of photography by seminal artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The Open Photography Exhibition is an open call to all students, faculty, and staff to enter a photo-based work for display in the Edward M. Smith Gallery in conjunction with Collected Light. The galleries are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from noon to 4 p.m. Programs are free and the public is welcome. For information, call 704.894.2575.

December 3 (Monday)– Concert Series: Handel’s Messiah – Duke Family Performance Hall (7:30-9:00 p.m.) – Celebrate the holiday season with the Davidson College Concert Choir and members of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Handel’s beloved oratorio. Tickets are available at the door, online, by calling 704.894.2135, or by visiting the Union Box Office in the Knobloch Campus Center. [General Admission - $20; Seniors/Faculty/Staff - $15; Students – free at the door.]

December 9 (Sunday) – Christmas Vespers – Davidson College Presbyterian Church – The Davidson College Chorale, Brass Ensemble, and Flute Choir will participate in the annual Vespers service. The pre-service music begins at 7:00 p.m. and the service begins at 7:30 p.m. There is no charge to attend. For information, please call 704.894.2357.

Important Reminder: The 2008 Royal Shakespeare Company at Davidson Residency is planned for January 20 - February 17. This month-long celebration offers performances and free public events. This is the fourth year of a five-year program. Look in January’s newsletter or online at www.davidson.edu for more details and a full schedule of events.

Basketball should prove to be an exciting sport for the Wildcats this season. The men nearly beat No. 1 ranked North Carolina at the Bobcats Arena in Charlotte on November 14. During the week of Thanksgiving, Davidson College was ranked No. 25 in the Coaches Poll. Could the ‘Cats be heading for National recognition again?
