August 20 – 24 – Davidson College students return for the 2008-2009 academic year. Wednesday, August 20, is an optional check-in day for new students, with a full orientation from Thursday, August 21, through Sunday, August 24. The first day of classes for everyone is on Monday, August 25.
August 28 – October 8 – 2008 Faculty Art Exhibition: Herb Jackson, Lydia Musco, Ryan O’Malley, and Cort Savage – Van Every/Smith Galleries, Katherine and Tom Belk Visual Arts Center – This annual Studio Faculty Exhibition features new sculptures by Cort Savage, new paintings by Herb Jackson, and a special site-specific installation by Ryan O’Malley. New visiting Associate Professor of Art Lydia Musco will present an installation of large-scale concrete works that are inspired by modern and ancient architectural construction practices. The opening reception will be held on August 28, 7:00-9:00 p.m., with Lydia Musco speaking at 7:30 p.m.
The Every/Smith Galleries are open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from noon to 4 p.m. Programs are free and the public is welcome. For information, call 704.894.2519.
2008-2009 Artist Series – Season tickets are now available for the C. Shaw and Nancy K. Smith Artist Series. Tickets for individual performances will go on sale August 25. The series begins in September and is sure to entertain audience members of all ages. This year's season will consist of five diverse and entertaining performances, with one special and free event to be held in September. All performances are held in the Duke Family Performance Hall beginning at 8:00 p.m. For ticket information, call 704.894.2135.

Fall sports have returned. Both Men’s and Women’s Soccer begin during late August. Both teams have home exhibition games and season opening games during the month. Men’s Football is back in full swing with the first home game against Jacksonville on September 27 (1:00 p.m.). Women’s Volleyball also begins in August. Don’t miss the action by the Wildcats!
