Davidson College Events

January 23 – February 4 – Royal Shakespeare Company Residency Program

The Company returns to Davidson with “Infinite Variety: Love and Family in Shakespeare.” The two-week educational residency with RSC Learning will comprise programs and workshops for the college and greater community that will center on educational, personal, and historical aspects of love and family as expressed in the works and time of William Shakespeare. The RSC at Davidson partnership began in 2002 and will continue through 2008 with educational and performance residencies. Although this year’s calendar of events will not include performances as in 2005, the events and forums present a rare community opportunity. For more information contact Bethany Prestigiacomo, Director of Artist Residency Programs, by phone at 704.894.2115 or via e-mail at rscdavidson@davidson.edu. Visit www.davidson.edu and click on the appropriate icon under “News and Events” for a complete schedule of activities open to the public.

As a fitting close to this year’s program, members of the public are invited to a performance on Friday and Saturday (February 3 and 4) of Shakespearian scenes, sonnets, and songs. Davidson College students will star in the performance, which culminates their two weeks of rehearsal under the direction of members of the Royal Shakespeare Company. The performances begin at 7:30 p.m. both nights in the Duke Family Performance Hall. Admission is $5. For reservations and information, call 704.894.2135 from 10-4 weekdays, or visit www.davidson.edu/shakespeare.

February 21 (Tuesday) – Symphony Orchestra Concert

The concert will also feature winners of the Concert Choir and the concerto competition. The symphony begins at 8:00 p.m. in Duke Family Performance Hall. Please call 704.894.2357 for information.

February 22 (Wednesday) – The Davidson College Concert Series

The Quartet has performed both classical and contemporary works in numerous festivals throughout the United States. General admission is $20 ($15 for faculty/staff/seniors) and free for students at the door. The concert begins at 8:00 p.m. in Tyler-Tallman Hall of the Sloan Music Building.
